Essential Climbing Checklist for Tanzania Treks
Clothing Layers
- Moisture-wicking base layers (top and bottom)
- Insulating mid-layers (fleece or down jacket)
- Waterproof and windproof outer shell (jacket and pants)
- Thermal underwear and socks
- Insulated gloves and liner gloves
- Warm hat or beanie and sun hat with brim
- Buff or neck gaiter
Footwear
- Sturdy, broken-in hiking boots (waterproof recommended)
- Comfortable camp shoes or sandals
- Multiple pairs of wool or synthetic hiking socks
- Gaiters (for mud or snow, depending on season)
Gear and Equipment
- Daypack (20–30L) with rain cover
- Duffel bag for porter (up to 15kg/33lbs)
- Sleeping bag rated to -10°C (14°F) or lower
- Headlamp with extra batteries
- Trekking poles (collapsible)
- Water bottles and/or hydration bladder (2–3 liters total)
- Sunglasses with UV protection
Health & Hygiene
- Personal first aid kit (bandages, painkillers, blister care)
- Prescription medications and altitude sickness pills
- Sunscreen (SPF 30+) and lip balm with SPF
- Biodegradable soap and hand sanitizer
- Toilet paper and wet wipes
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, and small towel
Snacks & Nutrition
- High-energy snacks (nuts, trail mix, energy bars)
- Electrolyte tablets or drink powders
- Favorite comfort foods (optional)
Documents & Essentials
- Valid passport and visa (if applicable)
- Travel insurance (including high-altitude evacuation)
- Copies of important documents (paper and digital)
